Believe it or not, but this shoot was part of a portfolio builder session. I haven’t had the opportunity to experiment with large tulle tutus on a lovely pregnant fairy so I reached out on Facebook via a model call which Nicole happily answered to.
The tutu shots weren’t the only thing I wanted to showcase though, and Nicole was gracious enough to allow me all my experimentations and showcasing shots during her shoot.
I was getting a plethora of bookings, always asking for the same set up; outdoor, sunny and warm, nature but park-like location. And don’t get me wrong! I LOVE doing these, but I found it strange that women where asking me to do these kinds of shoots for them even though they themselves (or their family) aren’t really picnic-in-the-park kind of people. Why would you want to immortalise a wonderful and hugely significant milestone of your life with something that doesn’t reflect you even one bit?
So, I set out to PROVE there is more than one way to shoot a bump beautifully…
Nicole LOVED the idea of doing a lifestyle maternity session. Sure, we did do a couple of posed shots, but we did want to capture her essence. We wanted to capture something her little one would one day look at and say “ah! So momma’s always been this placid, classy and warm woman.” or “OMG! What have I done? My mom used to be a placid, classy and warm woman, and not the constantly tired, hot mess that I know and love now…” (P.S: just a joke… no-one wants to guilt their kids for anything even though it mostly is their fault…)
You want to tell YOUR story, and lifestyle photos are an amazing way to authentically tell that story.
Don’t take my word for it…
Just see for yourself. After all, a picture speaks a thousand words.
