Tamsin swart – from girl to a woman
All women know how difficult that transition period from pre-teen to young woman can be. Our hormones are all over the place, we still want to do everything “little girls” do yet feel pressured to start acting and looking like a young woman, for most the hormones add pimples to our faces and it feels like it is the end of the world.
Enter Natalie: the mother of Tamsin, a soon to be young woman. Natalie contacted me to book a teen shoot for her daughter with the thought that this may help Tamsin with her metamorphosis by boosting her self confidence once she sees how truly beautiful she is, and boy-oh-boy is Tamsin beautiful girl!
We started out with more “girly” photos; the very first with balloons. The idea behind this photo was to have Tamsin in a pose which screams “I’m a moody teen” (hence no smile and the slouchy posture) holding a bunch of pastel balloons which symbolise childhood. She’s not yet ready to let go of those balloons but she WANTS to let go. We kept her appearance childlike and fresh for the majority of her session to emphasise the child Tamsin still is inside, and finished off with a fairytale like shoot with makeup and wardrobe to match to show off her more mature feminine side.
All-in-all I can say I am thrilled with the end results!
Yes, the teen years are a difficult phase we all, boys and girls, have to go through some time or another, but these are the days where we begin to discover who we really are and what makes us uniquely us. I truly hope Tamsin will look back at these photos and remember she is a beautiful young woman, both inside and out.
